Hi Amanda, I really enjoyed this podcast and it made me reconsider many old assumptions and teachings from when I was a teenager. I did find something on the church website and would love your take on it. It is called “The Parent’s Guide”. In chapter 5: Teaching adolescents age 12 to 18 it reads “The sin of masturbation occurs when a person stimulates his or her own sex organs for the purpose of sexual arousal. It is a perversion of the body’s passions.” Later is says, “In a gospel sense, it is a sin: “Masturbation, a rather common indiscretion, is not approved of the Lord nor of His Church.” I look forward to your insights and have enjoyed so many of your episodes. Thank you for all the great information you give.
Hi, The Parent’s Guide is really old information (1985) before they started removing the word Masturbation from all other literature. We also have to understand that often teens are aroused for no apparent reason, or at least not trying to be, and taking care of it is different that purposely trying to arouse themselves. Even if masturbation is a sin, I think there are a lot worse things and shaming people about their sexuality is a lot worse and causes more damage. I always recommend seeking personal revelation on the matter for you and your family.
